How It Works

Some terminology first.
Email Client. An email client is an application such as MS Outlook®, Netscape Messenger®, etc.
Default Email Client. This is the application that MS Windows® will launch when an email action is required.
Email Server. A physical machine at your email providers location. This is what you connect to in order to receive email.

Email clients have some lmitations.
A) Checking your email requires downloading all the emails on your server. On a high speed internet connection this may or may not be quick but on a dialup connection it can take a very long time.
B) Your email mail is stored on the machine you checked your email with. In other words, if you check your email at home you can not read that email at work.
C) These applications are very large. Even on a current computer these clients can take a long time to load up before you can even check your email.
D) They need to be fully installed on the computer. You can not move the client from one machine to the next.
E) Years ago the features and and level of customization has far out stretched the end users ability to use them. A lot of these features are exploited by email viruses.

Email Segway is small, fast and easy to use and addresses the above problems in the following ways.

A) Only gathers (downloads) information you need, when you need it. You can check all your email accounts in seconds. Even on a dialup connection.
B)Deletes email from your server when you decide to. Simply viewing your email will store it on the local machine but will not delete it from your server making it available to be viewed again from another computer. The email can be deleted from the server at any time.
C) Email Segway has a very small footprint and loads in a matter of seconds. Even on older computers.
D) Although Email Segway does come with an installer for your convenience it does not integrate into the OS in any way. You can simply copy the Email Segway folder from one machine to the next. Or better yet, run it from a USB storage device. Thumb drives work excellent with Email Segway.
E) Email Segway just does email. Easy and simple to use. Unaffected by email macro, script or other type viruses.

New Mail
Since Email Segway does not necessarily store email locally, new email takes on a little deferent definition.
Large email clients know there is new email on your server because that last time it accessed your server it deleted all the emails from it.
Email Segway can not relay on the fact that there is email on you server. Email is considered new if the number of emails has changed since you last look at the server.
Consider this situation. There are 10 emails on your server. 4 of them show as new. When the 11th email comes in you will get a message saying there is 1 new email (1 out of 5). This is because the last time you looked at the server there were 10 emails with 4 new. Now there are 11 emails making the last last one new to Email Segway. The new email count will remain accumulative until you view the details of the server. Only then will the new email count be reset to zero.

Server Tint
Since Email Segway is designed for use with multiple emails accounts each server has a color associated with it.
This makes it easy to understand what server each emails belongs to. All lists in Email Segway use this technique.

Color Tones
This is an audible version of server tint. If new email is found on a server a melody will be created from its server color and played with the MIDI instrument that has been selected. Choosing different instruments will cause the sound to change but not the melody. Thus, once you get used to the melody of a server you can tell if it has new email just by listing to the color tone.
